We use PC Reservation + PWB as the desktop on selected machines, although we don't run PWB in kiosk mode. I had a similar problem until I configured PC Res to start PWB upon succesful login. I used a batch file to call PWB with command line arguments because PC Res did not handle a command line with...

We ran into this issue with MySpace several times a couple of Saturdays ago. Two clues helped me circumvent the issue, at least temporarily. The near blank window that appeared and froze PWB showed "self.focus()" in the upper left corner, and a hyper patron who repeatedly clicked the mouse...

We use group policies to restrict viewing and access to the hard drive and network from any application, including Notepad. They work quite well. Alternately, Notepad can be blacklisted with a policy object if desired. Enabling View Source in PWB is a great troubleshooting tool for me--often, I can ...

I do something like that by using a URL to start another instance of PWB with a different .ini file. I use an old utility called W3Launch which is a little quirky but works well once configured. Java, javascript, or VBscript applications could potentially work as well if you keep in mind the securit...

I stopped receiving reports of "Server Busy" error messages after I installed v2.05. I double checked with our circ staff, who normally are the front line for patron questions or complaints, and they agreed the errors seemed to have stopped. Thanks Scott!

We experience the "Server Busy..." message, too, except under different conditions: 1) a previous user has accessed MS Messenger and exited, leaving MSM in memory with its icon in the tray, 2) a following user logs in to a Hotmail account and tries to access a message. We've seen it in the...

I run PWB off a server to many machines in a Win2K domain, and I use Ghost to clone updates across the machines as well. PWB and my 8 .ini files run off the server, as do my desktops with shortcuts, so I don't need to clone or reconfigure any machine to update PWB or create a new configuration--ever...

I run the same networked PWB.EXE on WinXP, Win2K, and Win98 PCs. I have versions on both Win2K and NT servers. My work machine is WinXP, and our client PCs are a mix of Win98 and Win2K. I test all PWB versions and configurations from my XP machine, and run them off Win2K/98 machines. I don't do anyt...

I run PWB off a server for all our public Internets, PACs, and special purpose PCs, with configuration files customized for each use and specified in the command line. Here's an example (no line breaks and include the quotes): "\\server\d\Program Files\TeamSoftware Solutions\Public Web Browser ...

Editor's Spell Checker

Is there a way to get Editor's spell checker to work on a PC without MS Word installed?

I enable "Run only allowed Windows applications" in the group policy, and this has been working to limit what can be opened from the Open/Save dialog.
