timer issues with Public Web Browser v3 "CEF"

Post by rmmartel »

Greetings,

I've been trying to get Public Web Browser v3.04.5 "CEF" configured to use with a touch screen kiosk running Windows 7 Professional Edition 64 bit. I want to use the inactivity timer to return the browser to the initial page after the user walks away from the kiosk. What I have been finding is after starting up PWB the inactivity timer works a time or three and then stops working. No inactivity notice, no return to the start page. Does not matter what web pages I go to on our site, I can visit the same one and have the timer work right and then return to the same page and not have it work.

I have not tried PWB IE with my configuration file.

Usually when I have problems with PWB it is because I am missing something. Wondering if this is the case again.

Can't seem to attach this as a file - keeps saying invalid extension.

Set your inactivity action to exit. This will allow PWB to close and clean up and memory issues and then restart to your home page.

[Inactivity]
InactivityAction=Exit

Setting to exit will also reset the activity timer.

Gave that a try with no success. after three visits to the same page the browser stayed open and on that page for several hours now.

Okay, tried it with the IE version....that one doesn't work for me at all, it never times out and returns to the home screen. The page I am testing with a simple HTML page.

Odd.

What are the steps you are following to test PWB?

Using the above configuration file I use a batch script to start Hidegui (which I am also having some issues with) and then starting PWB.

It opens to our default kiosk page, I then click on a link to our college's website, then another click onto a page further into the web site, then I walk away from it - checking back later to see if the browser has returned to the default kiosk page.

That is how the inactivity and activity timers work be design.

PWB starts on the home page. Clicking on any links will start the timers which will close and restart PWB back to the home page when the timers run out.

If you want a different page available as the default page, change the home page in the INI file to the page you want PWB to start on.

What you describe is exactly what I want to happen and what I expect to happen...but it is not happening. The visited pages never time out and the browser never returns to its initial state.

From the home page set in your INI file (http://cua6.urban.csuohio.edu/media/kiosks/), what links are you clicking to test the setup?

Here is how we are testing with your INI file with the inactivity action set to "exit".

1. Start PWB. Starts at the home page, attachment 1.

2. Click the "College Website" button and wait for the timer to run out, attachment 2.

3. Inactivity dialog is displayed, attachment 2.

4. PWB restarts back to the home page, attachment 1.

What I am seeing is that VERY often the inactivity timer STOPS. I now have the countdown timer showing on the screen on the lower RH side and it will freeze and fail to count down. This happens with either flavor of V3 of PWB

It has been sitting with the counter stopped 4:56 all afternoon

What is the URL of the web page that is being displayed?

What do you have set for the following?

[Inactivity]
InactivitySeconds=120

Please zip your PWB folder, minus the "PWB.exe" file, and email it to support@teamsoftwaresolutions.com.

Hi All,

I am having similar problems with the inactivity timer stopping in PWB CEF, Version 3.04.5 Basic 02-02-2015.

The inactivity timer will count down and exit the session once or twice, but then it will stop counting down completely.

This is on an HP Stream Mini running Windows 10 Home Edition.

Has there been any update on this issue or resolution?

Please let me know if I can provide any other info that would be useful.

Thanks!

Is the timer showing, but it is not counting down?

It maybe a shaky mouse, try setting the following in your INI file.

[Inactivity]
ResetOnMouseMove=False

Hi Scott, Thanks for your help!

The timer is showing, but it either does not count down or if it does count down nothing happens when it reaches 0. I'd like to get PWB to exit and return to the homepage after the timeout period so that when a new user walks up they see the homepage and not the search results of the last user.

ResetOnMouseMove is already set to false.

I have PWB v3 CEF installed on Windows 10 Home edition computers. This is my pwb.ini file . Any suggestions you might have would be most welcome. Thanks!

Create a message file from one of the HTML templates included with PWB v3 and set the following in your INI file.

[Inactivity]
InactivityMessageFile=C:\Your\Path\inactivity.html

This will allow the inactivity message to show before doing the inactivity action.
