HideGUI - Windows 8

Post by chearns »

Using HideGUI_v1504.zip

I am building a windows 8 image for our catalog stations.

Currently we are running windows 7 with HideGUI and PWB and everything works fine.

With windows 8, we bought START8 to rebuild the start menu back into windows 8.
It allows booting directly to the desktop as well as disabling hot corners, Charm Bar, new windows UI.

Anyway, HideGUI works, however after about 5 minutes the start menu and task bar reappear.
Thinking this may be caused by START8 interacting oddly with HideGUI, I uninstalled Start8.

Without START8, menu and bar still reappeared after 5 minutes.
This is telling me that something within windows 8 is refreshing and bringing the menu and task bar back after HideGUI takes it away.
Shortcuts like the windows key remain disabled after the task bar returns.

Wondering if your able to reproduce and if you think HideGUI could be tweaked to better hide the taskbar and startmenu on windows 8.

I figured out the cause.

I had the taskbar setting of auto-hide enabled.

This was to hide the taskbar right away while HideGUI started up after reaching the desktop.

I guess that setting being enabled within windows confused it a bit after the bar was hidden.

Thank you for the update.

That would do it. HideGUI simply hides the Taskbar, Windows is free to un-hide it. If you do not tell Windows to hide it then Windows will not un-hide it.
