PWB Locks up or Hangs

Post by Scott »

There are several issues that can cause PWB to lock up or hang, most of them have to do with the underlying Internet Explorer. Make sure you are using the most recent version of Internet Explorer. Here are a few things you can try or look for.

Is you computer infected with Browser Helper Objects (Spyware, Adware)? To turn off the Browser Helper Objects open the Control Panel applet Internet Options and go to the Advanced tab, Browsing section, and Uncheck the Enable 3rd party browser extensions. Or use a Spyware killing program such as Spybot to keep the computer clean.

Do you have PWB set to clear the cache on close? Sometimes Internet Explorer can have a problem if the cache files are corrupted, because PWB uses Internet Explorer for most of its functionality, if Internet Explorer has a problem, so will PWB.

PWB does not prevent viral infections, make sure you have virus software installed and the virus definitions are up to date.

How is PWB being closed? If you are forcing PWB to close, this can cause a problem if Internet Explorer has not finished writing to disk when PWB is forced closed.

Are the users on any particular web site or can the problem be duplicated in any way? Perhaps a specific or unscrupulous web page is causing Internet Explorer to hang.

Does PWB hang after a period of time? According to Microsoft, Internet Explorer is not meant to be run for extended durations, you may want to have the computers rebooted at least once a month.
