Upgrading PWB Questions

Post by dparvin »

I have a number of questions concerning the move from v2.10.4 to either a newer version of v2 or even up to v3.

1) We are moving from Windows XP 32 bit to Windows 7 64bit machines for about half of our public computers. Also moving from IE 8 to IE 10. What steps (like changing the INI files, instructions, etc.) should I take to successfully to complete this activity?

2) I also just renewed our license for the next year based on our current version, so will this be an issue?

3) We will also still have half of our public computers continue using the old version 2.10.4 with XP and IE 8. Will the users see much of a difference between the two as far as browsing?

Thanks in advance for any help. I am kind of new to this program.

See this post:

Nope. If you renewed you obviously have a site license and the site license can be used on any version of PWB.

Not much. PWB uses the Internet Explorer version installed on the computer for all its HTML rendering. The
PWB Graphical User Interface (GUI) around the Internet Explorer ActiveX Control PWB uses does not change between versions of Windows or Internet Explorer.

Now if you change to PWB version 3 Basic there will be a difference because you are changing PWB version.

Use the PWB v3 INI Updater to update your INI files from PWB v2 to PWB v3.

Copy the new INI file and any support files such as the URL filter file to the PWB v3 folder.
