pdf files won't open

Post by rockymnway »

I am building a kiosk using PWB v2 and I am unable to open pdf files at http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/journal/ using PWB. I am able to open them using IE8 but it opens up Adobe Reader 10. Not sure why. I can open pdf files in other sites. We also don't want students saving or printing pdf files. Anyway we can disable that?

What version of PWB are you using?

Are you using any of the PWB filters?

If you use a stock unedited INI file can you view the PDF files on the web site?

The PDF viewer is outside of the control of PWB. You can try using the Secure PDF viewer available on our Beta Downloads page, or use Windows Policies to hide and prevent access to the C: drive.

I forgot to say I am running PWB as the shell. Not sure if that matters or would cause it from not opening up the pdf files from this site. I'll try running the stock ini file. Its as though it wants to pop open another window when I click on a pdf file from this site. Any other pdfs from other sites open within PWB

What specific version of PWB are you using including the minor revision number, for example PWB v2.02.9, or PWB v2.11.2?

Try upgrading to PWB v2.11.2.

Since other PDF files open, there is may be an issue with either the JavaScript or Internet Explorer in Compatibility mode which v2.11.2 accounts for.

Upgraded both PWB.exe and ini file. Still won't open pdf files from http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/journal/. IE will open pdf files from sciencedirect.com.

What are the steps need to recreate the issue? I poked around on the web site and was able to open sample PDF files.

Could there be a setting in the ini file preventing the pdf file from opening up Adobe Reader X? It only appears to be pdf files at www.sciencedirect.com/science/journal/. When we search for any pdf files and try to open it, it does nothing. It's like it is a dead link. When we click on a pdf from the same site using IE8, it opens up in Adobe Reader X. Other journal sites open pdfs within the PWB and does not try and launch Adobe Reader X.

It is not that PWB is not opening the PDF files. The web site opens the PDF files in new Windows in Internet Explorer so you need to allow PWB to open new Windows.

Set the following in your INI.

[Browser]
DisableNewWindow=False
