We're running Windows XP on brand new Dells, 2.8Ghz Pentium 4's with 512MBs of RAM - and it's no faster than my 1.5Ghz Athlon XP system at home, running Windows 2000 with 512MBs RAM. If I had the money, I'd have at least twice that amount in my home system, if not more. IMHO 512MB is now the bare mi...

I recall a problem with spyware awhile back, that referred to a site called "thehun" or something similar - have you run any anti-spyware programs on the machine in question?

Just a guess :)

Hi,

As far as I know, you have to use the printer icon in the Acrobat Reader plugin, the regular IE (or in this case, PWB) print buttons will not work correctly. Usually, our patrons come up to the desk without anything at all being printed, after clicking the PWB print button.

Hope that helps!

Just to check - you're using the printer icon on the Acrobat Reader toolbar, correct? The PWB print buttons and menu options don't control plugins like Acrobat Reader, just like in IE.

Just this morning, a young woman came in to work on something for an online course she's taking. I've been watching this thread, but I've been working on some other upgrades to our computer network, and as a result hadn't installed the updated version of PWB. Of course, when the woman filled out the...

Hi, Not the exact same problem, but we've had a similar problem here, usually on our older NT machines. Once in awhile, after PWB loads there will be no Internet connection (we have the proxy settings set in PWB). If I use the override command to switch the proxy on/off, everything then works fine. ...

That second error message seems to pop up here on our older machines when a patorn first tries to access a floppy disk - the operating system seems to not give the program enough time to read the disk, and instead of saying the drive isn't ready, it displays that error message - I believe the messag...

Scott, There's an article on the Fortres website about this problem. http://www.fortres.com/support/kbviewarticle.asp?ID=1001054 You need to be a registered Fortres user to view the article. There are slightly different settings for version 5.0 and 4.1, basically it involves allowing certain folders...

Web-based email attachments are a nightmare even without using the download manager lol... I think hotmail goes through at least 3 links before you get the actual file, including a redirect link somewhere in there. At least with Yahoo, you can right-click on an image file, click "save image as,...

Frequent webmail site crashes

Hi, We have a number of Russian students staying in town over the summer on a work/study program. They all use the site www.mail.ru for their email. A frustrating percentage of the time, PWB freezes when they go to send a message, and everything that they've typed is lost (XP seems to have trouble c...

Hi,

I've had one patron in the last three years who has asked to use telnet. What I did at the time was to simply make a shell button that launched telnet.exe. I've long since removed it, though, due to lack of use. Perhaps the shell button would work in this case?

Have you tried setting OnlyAccessHTTP=True? This will also block FTP sites, though, so it may not be an option for you.

PWB and the new Yahoo email

Hi, Has anyone else had problems with the new Yahoo email interface? I have, well, one patron (who complains enough for several more) who says that she "can't delete her email" in Yahoo. When I watched to see what the problem was, she had several hundred new messages in her inbox, and was ...
