GregP, Now, that Wake-on-LAN looks interesting. I use Comprise's SAM time management module to log off, shut down and reboot ( and send messages when patrons are looking at inappropriate material). But SAM doesn't start up the pc's in the morning. I'd like to use it to turn on all the public pc's in...

Wanda, As of now, I'm only using the SCT with PWB and Deep Freeze. I have no intention of using Windows Disk Protection (WDP). Right now I'm only using it on a couple of OPACS and so far so good. Only thing I don't like is you can't shut down the machine when logged into a public account, unless you...

Can you apply the same thing to Microsoft word? Sometimes I get patrons who find word documents posted on their business website (Excel too) and the file opens also in PWB. Do I have to go into Word and Excel and uncheck a similar setting like you did in Adobe Reader? Thanks for the info Keith. Phil

In a limited account, no user can execute a downloaded program to the hard drive. If a USB drive allows a program to run, use TrustNoExe. It won't allow any programs, other than the ones you want to give to your patrons to execute - no matter where the executible is launching from, cd-rom drive, usb...

I think even if it went to $200 it would still be a good value.

And if that doesn't work, tell them to get a yahoo account. LOL!

Ok ok, that wasn't fair. I'm using 2.08 and I haven't had any of my AOL users complain about that. I'd like to know what resolution you come up with spragers, thanks.

I had this similar problem years ago. I can't use the group policy feature cause I have other MS office apps that they need access to. I just use TrustNoExe to prohibit any executable but allow all document types to open. Never had a problem with it, and it comes with a customizable message that wil...

Pat,
Ok I made a boo boo. The initial machine I tested the Gmail on was using 2.05 --oops!. Subsequently I tested Gmail on a different group of machines that were newer and I had put 2.08 on; those had no problems. Guess I'll have to update.

Sorry for the confusion Scott.

Pat, I've tested the Gmail app with my version, 2.08 and don't have any trouble opening up any emails or sending/opening attachments. The only problem I am having is PWB doesn't like using their Rich Formatting for typing a message. I have to switch to Plain Text in order to even get a blinking curs...

Don't know if this helps you but I opened my Gmail using PWB 2.05 and didn't have a problem. I am using my own staff machine running WinXP w/SP2, all patched up. I can go to one of my public pc's running XP but with PWB 2.08 and see what happens, but no one has complained to me yet. Not only was I a...

I'm using a more recent version than yours. I suggest you update your maintenence package and let Faronics deal with the headaches.

Re: Deep Freeze Playing Hide 'n Seek

Hi All, We know there's now a patch out which bypasses DF 5 (which is why we'll shortly be upgrading to the latest DF), but after close observation, I can say that this hide and seek is seemingly random, happening without patron intervention. Deep Freeze doesn't know what to make of this. Is anybod...
