Hi, I only have 8 computers to deal with here, but I use the same setup: a startup script copies PWB.EXE and all the related files to the local hard drive from a network drive. That way, I can easily make changes to the PWB configuration, and they take place the next time the computer reboots (which...

A year or so ago I personally had looked into finding a way to automatically pause documents as they came in to the print queue. I never found a way. Apart from always having the printer paused, the way you suggested, or spending $$ on a software package that would be overkill in your situation, I d...

Fair enough 8)

I should have qualified that by stating that our computers are rebooted after every user, and DriveShield wipes out changes (I lost count of how many people came up to the desk saying "I just logged off and forgot to save something, can you get it back for me?"

If you use a cookie deleter, or a drive wiper like DriveShield or DeepFreeze, then that isn't an issue.

I've never considered PWB to be a security program in and of itself - rather, a secure interface to the security nightmare that is Internet Explorer. We've used additional security programs here since I started (initially WinSelect, which I could not in good faith recommend to anyone), including For...

Hi Marlene, You can use the ManageIE browser helper object (on the downloads page here) to prevent Internet Explorer from ever running. Even if you allow patrons to access disk drives / folders with Explorer, as soon as they type in a web address, the window closes. We've been using it here for as l...

Hi,

Here's the problem - you have:

InactivityStartOnOpen=False

That should be set to True if you want the Inactivity Timer to start when PWB starts.

Hope that helps!

Hi,

I wonder if that, once you select a page range, IE is only able to apply it to a particular frame?

"http:\\10.7.23.5\C:\ipac2.1\pwb\pac\pwb.ini" Correct me if I'm wrong, but you can't put foreward slashes and drive letters in an HTTP URL request... then you'd have to use the file/// delimiter. If the 10.7.23.5 points to a web server, then the rest of the URL has to point to dorectories...

Hi,

Why not just remove the printers that are installed on those computers?

Here you go - these are screenshots of the program the way we have it set up here, it would look somewhat different depending on how many stations you're managing, which programs you make available at the public stations, etc. You can even change the background colors if you don't like my choices :l...

Update: I logged in as the local administrator, and maually deleted all of the history and temp files, and was then able to access the page. The patron who wanted to use it then came in and said she had called, and they told her the site had been down but was back online now. I don't really buy that...

I then turned off DriveShield, rebooted, cleared all Internet information, logged off and back on, got the same error page.' Then.... I logged off...

PC Checkout - public computer control

Hello, A couple of years ago, the library at which I work had been looking for a solution to managing our public access computers. We started with sign-up sheets, and tagboard holders for library cards, but they required excessive staff intervention, and seemed confusing to library patrons. After de...
