I subscribe to Web4Lib and Lib-NT, although neither are soecifically for public access computing environments, they get a decent amoubt of traffic, and occasionally related topics are discussed. I'm not aware of any lists specifically on PACs, though.

Also, I believe you should have those IP adresses in the IP.TXT file, not in the URL.TXT file.

First, try fixing these lines: SearchPage=http://http://catalog.ppld.org WebMailPage=http://http://catalog.ppld.org I seem to recall that the default setting for the search page is www.google.com - maybe (and I could be WAY off here) they are clicking the search button, and since the double http://'...

Hi,

Ran a test using your URL file in place of our own. I couldn't load http://www.google.com

Are you sure you have CheckURLAccess=True?

I'm guessing you either have

OnlyAccessHTTP = True

or, you have a:\ in your URL.TXT file.

Either of those will prevent access to the A: drive.

What's worse than Fortres?

WinSelect...
Netscape...

That's what was in place for security before I started my current job. We now run a combo of PWB / Fortres / DriveShield and a bunch of reg hacking.

We have to play by the rules of our system resource library (for the most part ;) )

Cheap fix: shrink the taskbars (click and drag so they are flat), that will help hide them but not prevent access. Better fix: use a program like Fortres that disables the start button among many other features (that's what we use here with great results). Also, even if PWB is in Kiosk mode, can't a...

Do you have kiosk mode enabled?

[Browser]
...
KioskMode=False

In kiosk mode, the title bar is not displayed, and neither are the buttons to min/max/close.

or

ShowTitleBar=True

If that's set to false I think it will hide the title bar (but should still show those buttons, I believe)

PWB's restricted save feature can accomplish this to some degree - it will only allow saving to the drives you specify when downloading linked files. Scott has a more complete restricted save add-on that handles just about every file saving situation you'll get in PWB (I've seen a beta version and i...

Not much help, but we're running PWB with Adobe Acrobat Reader 5 and don't seem to have any problems (either in NT or XP)

If there is, I'd like to hear about it :) For now, we use DriveShield to erase any changes that are made to the hard drive. We also use Fortres, which blocks some programs from writing to the hard drive, and although I have all ActiveX content allowed (I got tired of having patrons complain about th...

I believe if you disable the File menu "Open" option, then that will disable the corresponding keyboard shortcut.
